A 60 ft. bifold door isn't the biggest door by far ever built by Schweiss Doors, but just the same it's one heck of a big door.
Shane Kellogg of Forest, Ohio needed a big door like this on his farm plus three other 40 ft. doors to store his farm equipment and his award winning pulling truck and semi that he uses to haul it to shows.
Driving trucks, at least on this level, for a six-time defending national champion can be lucrative, but it's also an expensive sport.
"I have a 1997 Dodge super stock diesel 4x4 pulling truck. If you were to buy a truck like mine it would probably cost around $200,000. You can gross about $30,000 a year in winnings if you do well and can keep most of it if you don't have a lot of breakage," noted Kellogg.
His Dodge, named "Gotta Have It" has a fiberglass body on a custom Barker machine tube chassis powered by a twin turbo-charged 6.7 liter Haisley Machine Cummins Super B which has 2,500 horsepower. He runs 35x18 Dick Cepek Super Puller cut tires.
He competes in about 40 events per year from May through September, and as this story was being written he was preparing to add to the roar at the National Farm Machinery Show indoor event at Louisville, Kentucky.
"Gotta Have It" definitely has it. This diesel twin turbo-charged 6.7 liter Haisly Machine Cummins Super B engine has 2,500 horsepower.
"I have been doing this since 2007. My dad always took me to truck and tractor pulls as I was growing up. That was the reason I got into it. I have a room full of trophies, but they're just big dust collectors. For the last year I have been giving my trophies to little kids in the crowd - it's like giving them a million bucks. I really enjoy seeing how happy it makes them," said Kellogg.
He is sponsored by Haisley Machine, Brian and Nathan King, Sandridge Customs and Kellogg farms.
Kellogg currently farms 5,000 acres of corn and soybeans. He has two Golden Giant steel buildings; one is a heated 75 ft. x 75 ft. shop where he works on his equipment and which serves as a gathering place in his man cave area. The other is a 100 ft. x 202 ft. building utilized for equipment storage. In early September construction was finished on his new machinery shed. He called on Schweiss
Doors to supply three bifold doors for it. One was a large 60 x 18.6 ft. door and two other 40x16 doors were attached to it. The Schweiss bifold doors were equipped with autolatches, bottom drive electric motors and remote openers. His other heated shop has a 40 ft. x 16 ft. Schweiss one piece hydraulic door on it.
It was at the National Farm Machinery show in Kentucky where he first saw Schweiss doors and said he thought they looked like the best quality door for the money.
Construction was completed in early September on this 100 ft. x 202 ft. steel equipment building. It has three Schweiss bifold liftstrap doors; one 60 ft. x 18.6 ft. door on the end and two 40 ft. x 16 ft. doors on the sidewall.
"I like all my Schweiss doors. The straps on the bifolds and the openers are really nice. It sure beats the heck out of trying to get sliding doors unfrozen from the ground in the winter or having birds build nests in the track of the sliders," said Kellogg.
He said he would recommend Schweiss doors to everyone.
"All the employees at Schweiss were very professional. And the Schweiss installers that came didn't mess around either, it only took them a little over a day to install all three doors on the new building."

Kellogg gets to about 40 pulling events each year from May through September. This semi hauls the Dodge pull truck, has a sleeper and is used to house all his pit crew equipment.
Kellogg revisited the Schweiss Doors display booth at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky. It was here that he was first introduced to Schweiss Doors. Kellogg also competed at the indoor truck pull while there.
Construction of his new 100 ft. x 202 ft. equipment storage building is nearly ready for the three 60 ft. and 40 ft. Schweiss bifold liftstrap doors to be installed.
